NEACAC’S Governmental Relations Committee is asking for your help!
There are currently 3 action alerts available through NACAC’S Legislative Action Center that the GRAC committee is encouraging your support. To take action click here: http://capwiz.com/nacac/issues/?style=D
Support the Pathways to College Act - sponsored by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Richard Burr (R-NC) and Representatives Tim Bishop (D-NY) and Vern Ehlers (R-MI), is a bill designed to aid low-income and first generation students in the transition into higher education by emphasizing the importance of school counseling in the career planning process. This bill will provide crucial grant funds to high need school districts to invest in school counseling services and increase students' access to postsecondary planning information. Take action and urge your members of Congress to join in co-sponsoring the Pathways to College Act and ensure greater access to higher education for all students.
Support the Dream Act - Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) have reintroduced the Dream Act of 2009 (S.729) in the Senate. The House version, H.R.1751, was reintroduced by Congressman Howard Berman (D-CA) and Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL). This bill, designed to provide a legal avenue to citizenship for undocumented students pursuing a postsecondary education or military service, would improve college access for tens of thousands of undocumented students who matriculate through our public school systems each year. The Dream Act is an important step to ensuring college access for all students and would correct an inconsistency in federal law that has left thousands of students behind. Please contact your congress members and urge them to support the Dream Act.
For Massachusetts Members – Support School Counseling and College & Career Readiness - Massachusetts House Bills 470 (An Act Establishing a School Counseling Leadership Pilot Project to Accelerate College and Career Readiness in Massachusetts Public Schools) and 471 (An Act to Assure College and Career Readiness through Six-Year Career Plans for all Massachusetts Public School Students), sponsored by Representative Alice Hanlon Peisch, are bills support the work of school counselors in assisting our students with post-secondary planning. Take action and urge your members of the General Court to join in co-sponsoring these bills in the House and Senate. |
