Workshops & Initiatives The Human Relations Committee develops programs that foster and ensure a supportive environment for counselors, especially those from traditionally underrepresented areas. It seeks to meet this goal through the Margaret Addis Memorial Scholar Program, and the Human Relations Award for Excellence in College Admission Counseling. The Committee strives to be the social conscience of NEACAC by promoting awareness, sensitivity and appreciation of human differences. It also sponsors the annual Community Service Project, which takes place at the NEACAC Annual Meeting and Conference in May/June. Who was Dr. Margaret Addis? Dr. Margaret Addis was a colleague, mentor and friend to us all. She spent 48 years in the field of education, 30 of which were at Newton South High School in Massachusetts. She was a national leader in guidance and college admission counseling. Her commitment to the education community through her involvement with professional organizations, mainly NEACAC and the College Board, and her greater commitment to the students she worked with will serve as a standard of excellence and inspiration to those who knew her. If she were to address you today, she would ask...
Let us remember why we are honoring the woman for whom this scholarship has been named. Please take back to your students, your schools and communities, the passion, commitment and professionalism that represent Dr. Addis. "Help to make a difference in the lives of students" |
