Advanced Counselor Roundtable

The Advanced Counselor Roundtable (ACR) is a newly redesigned professional development experience for secondary school colleagues with five or more years in the profession. ACR provides the opportunity for experienced counselors to connect with college counseling mentors and peers for one day of engaging and inclusive programming via Zoom.

We recognize that secondary counselors are just now emerging from one of the most challenging years in recent history. We hope that the timing of this mid-summer virtual workshop will provide an opportunity for rest and decompression before reestablishing collegial connections that are meant to rejuvenate our excitement in the profession.

Our day will begin with a roundtable discussion featuring directors of admissions Claudia Marroquin (Bowdoin College), Terry Malone (Clark University), David duKor-Jackson (MIT), Vern Granger (University of Connecticut), and Christine Bryan (University of Massachusetts Lowell). Moderated by NEACAC President Erik DeAngelis, our featured speakers will address recent trends in admission and projections for future practices.

The sessions that follow will focus on timely topics designed to provide tools that can make an immediate impact on your office, as well as to assist you in strategizing for the future. Topics include utilizing little-known admissions tools to help guide your students appropriately; accessing financial aid resources, both general and state specific; and how to write impactful, one-page letters of recommendation. Sessions will be discussion based, interactive, and thought-provoking - meant to pull from the expertise of the participants as well as that of the facilitators.

ACR will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 9:00am - 3:00pm, facilitated by experienced public and independent school counselors throughout New England as well as a few key college admission professionals. The cost for this program is $50 for NEACAC members ($65 non-members).
